Ten German sailors set for Tokyo 2020
Ten German sailors will represent their nation at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Sailing Competition racing across six Events.
The 470 World Championship in March 2021 was the last remaining qualifying regatta for the team German with the ten named sailors meeting the qualification requirements.
The team will be led by 49er sailors Erik Heil and Thomas Plöessel. The German sailors claimed bronze at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and have silver and bronze medals from the 2019 and 2020 editions of the 49er World Championships and will be medal favourites in Tokyo.
In the 49erFX, 2020 European Champions Tina Lutz and Susann Beucke will make their Olympic debuts.
In the Women’s 470, Luise Wanser and Anastasiya Winkel finished ninth at the recent World Championships to confirm their place at Tokyo 2020 which will be their first Olympic appearance.
Rio 2016 Olympian Philipp Buhl will race in the Laser and first-time Olympian Svenja Weger will compete in the Laser Radial.
Finally, in the Nacra 17, Paul Kohlhoff will make his second Olympic appearance and will be joined by debutant Alica Stuhlemmer.
